The Government of Canada announced an extension of the popular ecoENERGY Home Retrofit program on June 6, 2011.
This program will grant Canadian homeowners rebates of up to $5,000 for home energy improvements.
To qualify for grants you need to complete two home energy audits.
The first energy audit must take place before you renovate - if you want your energy-saving upgrades to qualify for Grants + Rebates.
A second energy audit must be completed after all upgrades are finished.
You begin — by completing an ecoENERGY assessment with a certified energy advisor. You are eligible for a rebate of up to $150 on the cost of your first ecoENERGY assessment (see Home Energy Audit program, above).
An energy audit of your home costs $350+HST. To reduce this cost, the Ontario government will send you a cash rebate of $150 as part of the Ontario Home Energy Audit Program. Your total audit cost, after you receive your rebate, is a little more than $200. You are not required to carry out a renovation to receive your Ontario Home Energy Audit rebate. Your HomePerformance Energy Advisor applies for the $150 Ontario Home Energy Audit rebate on your behalf.
Ontario houses greater than 3,500 sq.ft. of floor area (including basement) will be charged an additional fee of $75+HST for the first energy audit.
Your advisor — will apply for Ontario’s Home Energy Savings rebates on your behalf, after you have completed your energy-efficient renovations and your Ontario home has been re-assessed. You have 18 months from the date of the first energy audit to make some or all of the improvements your advisor recommends for your Ontario home, and complete a second audit.
